Known as one of the oldest community canning kitchens in the
United States, the Keezletown Community Cannery first opened its doors and
fired up its cook kettles in 1942. Nestled in the fruitful Shenandoah Valley,
individuals and groups are encouraged to use the community facility to learn
how to can large batches of fruits, vegetables, sauces, or other foods. Operating
hours are Tuesdays and Friday 8 am till close, and also by appointment. The
operating season for the Cannery is from the first Monday in July until the
second Friday in December.
The Cannery provides canning equipment, pots & pans, ladles
and other utensils. Individuals are suggested to bring recipes and ingredients,
boxes to carry the product home and jars if they do not want to purchase cans.
Come experience this one-of-a-kind cannery that has been open for 70 years!
